BIOGRAPHY
Ever a comedic and compassionate creative, a theatrical career seemed somewhat inevitable for Katie (She/They) as one of 5 kids in a chaotic North London family, with weekends spent learning to stilt-walk, juggle, and keep the peace. A children's choir opened early opportunities when cast in shows at the Royal National Theatre, Royal Albert Hall, and English National Opera. Having recently retired a brilliant touring Shakespeare company (The Medieval Players), another formative memory, her parents were initially aghast at Katie's unerring determination to “do this forever!”.
Rustling up plays, tours, music videos, pop groups, and questionable indie films during a classically tempestuous teen-hood, Katie sang over drum 'n' bass at raves, played festivals, elderly homes, hitch-hiked to Glastonbury, got into a whole lot of trouble, and found a whole lot of light, in the sometimes life-saving attempt to stay creative, whilst working multiple jobs; pubs, bakery, gift shop, arthouse cinema (incredibly influential to a love of film), an autistic school, a holistic health centre (discovering all things woo woo, intuitive and vegan - still a fan) and selling magic tricks.
Official places of study included Mountview Theatre School, Greasepaint Rep, Trinity Laban, and ENO's The Knack, culminating in a Post Grad(MFA) in Music Theatre at The Royal Academy of Music, alongside a voice-teaching qualification. Katie booked a huge West End gig days before graduating and following a year in The Sound of Music, and insistent intuition, Katie moved to NYC. A thrilling and messy decade of Shaw, Wilde, Austen, Shakespeare and farce followed at notable Regional and Off Broadway Theatre's. Studying Improv at UCB, and performing sketch with comedy troupe Pirate Sugar,
and Stand up across NY and LA, utilizing their self-taught guitar and Ukulele, producing web-series for the original Funnyordie.com, and writing 2 Solo-shows for Solocom festival at The Pit NYC, consisting of overly honest comedic songs, some of which can be found on Youtube, Vimeo, and Instagram, all fed into their comedic arsenal, with early influence from her very funny uncle Mark Heap.
Katie made her Broadway debut in Martin McDonagh's Hangmen a month before Covid shut it down. Twice. This placed parenting her now 6 year old to the forefront - ever a favorite endeavor.
A sought-after intuitive healer, Katie occasionally channels dead celebrities (and far-off galactic entities/guides). They consistently give really great advice.
